His clean and simple contemporary designs typically feature incredible colored stones. “Each colored stone is utterly unique,” says the designer. “I cannot duplicate nature. Every stone is irreplaceable; and so every piece of jewelry is a collectible original.”

He has won numerous international awards for his designs, including the DeBeer’s Diamonds Today Award and the American Gem Trade Association’s Spectrum Design competition, and is a member of the respected American Jewelry Design Council.

Born in Lausanne, Switzerland, Jean-Francois began his apprenticeship in the art of jewelry-making at the age of 15. His first professional position came a few years later in Geneva, when he was hired by the legendary house of Piaget. This auspicious start is evident today in the pristine precision of Albert’s design. He moved to Montreal, Canada in the late 1960s to introduce his own line of fine jewelry. While working with a fine jewelry store in Newport Beach, California, he met his future wife, Babs. His company, JFA Designs was founded in 1979. Today Jean Francois and Babs direct and manage the successful and innovative JFA Designs together. In addition to their home in Newport Beach, the Alberts’ life in Southern California includes an island retreat on Catalina Island.

Henry Dunay’s creations set the standard in fine jewelry. As a master of blending fine art and jewelry design, Henry Dunay has claimed practically every design award in existence and still manages to come up with fabulous, unique and highly collectible jewelry. Each piece is developed as a part of a collection with a unified theme. All of his easily identified designs are completely hand-finished by highly trained craftsmen using specialized tools to produce the engraved and faceted textures.

Dunay began working at 14 years old as an errand boy for a Manhattan Jeweler on Canal Street. While in high school he studied to be a cabinetmaker. At 21, he set up his own shop with seven employees. Since the family company was started in 1912, its foundation has been dedicated to creating some of the world’s most beautiful jewelry by superior craftsmen. At its inception almost 100 years ago, there were three brothers who came to New York from Latvia. Oscar Heyman & Brothers was established with origins traced to the Faberge workshops in Russia. The company has built its reputation for quality throughout the years and is committed to maintaining the family work ethic and traditions. The secret to this family dynasty, now in its third generation, is that centuries-old skills are still imparted from father to son so that the technical savoir-faire is never lost.

Colored precious stones from all over the world have continued to be a very important part of Oscar Heyman jewelry. Each piece of jewelry is a result of flawless design, excellent craftsmanship and impeccable matching and setting of stones in metals. Every step in the making of jewelry, from cutting and polishing of gemstones, the alloying of precious metals, making their own tools and dies, to the designing and manufacturing of each piece is done in-house. The jewels created by Oscar Heyman & Brothers are stamped with an Oscar Heyman mark with an individual serial number. Extensive records are kept for each serial number to include sketches, so that pieces can be identified and dated.

Samuel Jewels, Inc. was founded by Steve Samuel (second generation) and Camille Samuel (third generation) who combined have 100 years of jewelry experience and knowledge. Two men with a trade and a dream, immigrants from the Mardin region of Turkey, lived together in White Plains, NY and attempted to reach their goal in a country where they could not even speak the language. The company represents four generations of expert hand-crafted artisanship. The tradition began with Samo Samuel in the ancient Byzantine region, recognized for many centuries as an area that cultivates exceptional hand-crafted metal work. Samo was a blacksmith who used his steady hand and keen eye to give his customers flawless art work in areas ranging from tea sets to serving platters made from gold and silver.

The next generation learned the trade from their father, Samo, and expanded and improved upon it, branching out into the field of jewelry. The sons, some of who are still working in jewelry until today are involved in every facet of the jewelry business. Once again, the new generation learned their trade from their fathers, but developed their skills to find their own niches in the jewelry business. The involvement of the Samuel family is as expansive today as it has been at any other time in history, with thirteen descendents of Samo still carrying on the family craft.

William Levine is one of the pioneers of the jewelry industry. His company was perhaps best known as the first – and still only – American sight holder not based in New York. It was William Levine’s company that helped turn Chicago into a major diamond center. Since its inception in 1944 by Mr. William Levine, William Levine Inc., has become a powerhouse in the loose diamond business. During the early years, Mr. Levine established an Antwerp office and created an increasingly important presence in the Israeli diamond market.

In 1957, eldest son Carl joined the business, bringing fresh enthusiasm and aggressive marketing strategies to the family’s pursuits. In 1983, William Levine Inc. teamed up with a major diamond cutting company in a joint venture that resulted in the award of a very large sight from DeBeers. The ensuing years have seen William Levine Inc.’s growth into one of the world’s most important sources for fancy cut diamonds, particularly larger sizes.

The early 80’s also saw the third generation, grandson David Levine, enter into the family business. Under his direction, William Levine Inc. launched a new division of fine finished jewelry – William Levine Fine Jewels, LLC. The line features platinum, 18K yellow gold, diamonds, South Sea pearls and precious stones.
